OF THE MONTH

Dax-Devlon.JPG

This is the best book we’ve read in many a month. Dax-Devlon Ross's time at Sidwell Friends in Washington, D.C. makes the salutation of his letters, “Friend…” especially gripping. Most white people are so accustomed to their privilege in society that it’s almost impossible to imagine a white reader whose mind will not be improved by this book. Charity, expropriation, disbelief — these are the three large categories of response that white privilege delivers. Ross exposes them for what they are. He doesn’t try to dictate any solutions, doesn’t present himself as a savior; but he does offer a dozen or so suggestions for beneficial action, among them these: Resist the urge to turn away. Look back on your life. Share the power. Focus on race. Consider stepping down.

Everyone, please, please, please read this book.
